Chapter 15
By Shell97
“Hey Cap!”
Police Captain Ron Ligotti looked up from his computer screen with a resigned sigh. “How many times do I have to tell you not to call me cap, Nelson?”
Sgt. Nelson Nakano waved off his superior officer’s words as he darted up to his desk. “Take a look at this cap.”
“I should mark you up for insubordination,” Capt. Ligotti grumbled. “It’s sir or Captain, when you call me cap it shows a lack of respect and discipline.”
Nelson ignored Capt. Ligotti, as usual. “Remember that case Lydon was working on?”
“You mean the assault on that biker punk Hanzo?”
“Yeah that one. The M.E. found something interesting in Hanzo’s autopsy.”
“Well, don’t keep me waiting. Spit it out.”
Nelson consulted the file before him. “There were some inconsistencies between Lydon’s report and the results of the autopsy. He had several fresh injuries that weren’t in his admissions report.”
Capt. Ligotti rolled his eyes. “So what? You can’t tell me you’ve never roughed up a collar before.”
Nelson continued, ignoring Capt. Ligotti’s commentary. “And the Phone Company shows a call coming from Lydon’s cel a few seconds before Hanzo was shot. IA’s had an eye on Lydon for a while and this might be just what they need to bring him down.”
“John Lydon has an exemplary record, which is more than I can say for you Nakano,” Ligotti sighed again and started rummaging through his desk, “where the hell are my antacids? If you want to follow up on it go ahead, I’ll cover your ass.”
“Thanks cap,” Nelson threw over his shoulder. An antacid bottle hit the door to Capt. Ligotti’s office as Nelson closed it behind him.
Anika gasped as they entered Kuri’s domicile. Who knew such a place existed within the Core?
“You can put her down there,” Kuri said, directing Anika and Talehn to a torn red foam mattress.
“Thanks, we’ll be out of your hair as soon as I hook up with my partner.”
Still standing next to her Talehn gave a little cough.
Anika turned to face him. “What?”
“Do you really think that’s going to happen?”
Anika’s eyes narrowed. “Darian will find us, we just need to stay put so he can track us.”
“He’s not going to be the only one tracking us,” Talehn replied cynically. “And when are you going to tell me what went on up there?”
