Chapter 52
By Young Sage
Ran slowly opened his eyes, letting them adjust to the light, he was exhausted, even though he couldn't have been gone from his physical body for more than a few minutes. His memories were fuzzy, he knew that many things had happened he remember "Existence" he remembered vaguely the creatures that had chased him, he kept having flashes of people, things, and even places, but they were like shadows in a forest, there for a brief second, and then gone like they were never there in the first place. Taking a deep breath he slowly tried to sit up. Every muscled screamed at him, he almost wasn't able to make it up, but bracing himself against a nearby sapling, he was able to push himself up. Laboring for breath he closed his eyes again, trying to catch his breath. After letting a few minutes pass, Ran smiled to himself
"Hehe, you know i never thought i'd ever get to say this but, I'm way to old for this."
Making sure everything was in order, and that he hadn't sustained any physical harm, he cast a minor metabolism spell, that would speed up the process of recuperation. Standing up he looked around to make sure that nothing was out of place before starting off once more, to the Gods knows where.
Trees filled his view, with almost no sun penetrating the canopy above. The Forest looked like it hadn't yet been touched by the huge industrializing that he assumed was going on in other parts of the world. Smiling, he took a deep refreshing breath of the forest, indulging his sense to the beauty around him. Laughing for absolutely no apparent reason, Ran looked around him with a boyish glint in his mist grey eyes, looking around he started skipping, and twirling, like many children had in his day, finding himself more engrossed in just letting himself go, Ran couldn't help but laughing at how stupid he must look. It seemed almost as if he was young again, he could almost feel his youthful energy surging through him again. Suddenly He stopped dead in his tracks, dust and leaves flew away from him at his brief stop. Ran shook his head, looking in amazment at what stood before him.
"It can't be...no it just can't be!"
Rubbing his eyes, and then blinking them, he slowly counted to ten, before reopening them, but it was true.
But there it was surging with a vibrant energy that nothing else in the cosmos could ever duplicate. An ether meld...a point where hundreds of ether lines coursed together, and changed their usually unimpeded flow. This of course would cause a huge uproar in the ether network, and in trying to right itself, the ether would leave a deposit so that it could compensate for the change. This of course was so rare that it was considered only a myth to many, Ran himself had never given it really any heed, thinking it just ramblings of old men, or stories told to get one a free beer at a tavern. Yet here it was it all its wondrous glory, it was the most beautiful thing that he had ever seen, it glowed a slight green tinge, and pulsed lightly with an inside power, if he looked closely enough, he could see small rivlets of ether that shot through the huge meld. The meld itself stood at least twelve feet high, and as far as Ran could estimate was about 7 or 8 feet wide, looking somewhat like a small sculpted mountain, with its wide base that tapered to a pin like point. This must have been why he had felt so rejuvenated, pulsing with this much ether anyone would have been effected within a good 20 mile radiace! Shaking with excitment, and energy he slowly reached his hand out, just wanting to brush the meld, just to see what would come of it. It was almost as if time had slowed, his hand was mere inches from the meld, the power that filled him was increased almost ten fold with every centimeter that he got closer to it, licking his lips he pushed his hand the last inch to the meld....
