Chapter 67
By Shell97
Lydon hung up the phone with a smile. Master Ven's words rang through his head like the music a sweet stream makes in the summer. "I will leave their punishment to your discretion," Ven had said. He could already imagine what he'd do. Lydon's eyes glowed with anticipation but when he turned to order the fugitives into the van his face was composed.
At the last minute Lydon decided to escort them to the Core personally. It would be his last chance to observe Cisia.
Although Nakano's nails were cut short, they still managed to make angry red marks in the middle of his palms. At that moment, he would have sold his soul to get through the heavy wire mesh separating the front cab of the van from the back. Instead, he was chained to his seat.
He stared at the back of Lydon's head, wishing he could bore a hole into it. Snippets of scenery wizzed by the windshield and Nakano made a last ditch effort to get through to the driver. "Shouldn't you be taking us into the station house?" he asked the young driver. "Law enforcement isn't the Ministry's juristiction. Think of all the civil rights laws you're breaking right now."
The driver turned his head slightly to reply, but Lydon cut him off. "Don't bother answering that." Lydon turned his body around to face Nelson, "If you don't want to see the criminal next to you end up like your sister, I suggest that you shut your mouth."
Phoenix started from his postion next to Nakano on the bench. "So what? Are you gonna try to shoot me in the back again? You don't have the balls to face me, huh?"
Anika and Cisia shot him warning looks, but it was too late for that. They looked at each other apprehensively as the van stopped at it's destination.
