VARIOUS RESISTANCE MOVEMENTS AND MOBILIZATION AGAINST GLOBALIZATION

Since the demise of the MAI, the fight against globalization, against the IMF, the World Bank, the WTO and the G-20 has become a whoile new ball game, the dynamics of this battle has changed considerably.

In Seattle, a WTO meeting had been litterally blocked out by protesters using various actions. Once again, civil disobedience a means of action used by a good number of protesters, but this time around, it wasn't as effective as it had been during the MAI protests. The Seattle Anti-Riot squads would litterally tear gas protesters who sat there peacefully trying to stop the whole meeting. Enter a movement known only as the Black Bloc. Men and women dressed from head to toe in black, equipped with gas masks and ready to wreak selective destruction on the city as a whole. The actions of the Black Bloc was to wreck police lines and get protesters through to the area of protest, their actions were also there to destroy selected establishments that were representative of capitalist globalization, such as Nike stores, and McDonald's restaurants, and various other multinationals.Seattle had become a battleground between protesters and the Anti-Riot squad.. .unprepared forthe organized tactics of the Black Bloc, the protesters pierced right through the lines, and the WTO meeting was disrupted.

In Bolivia, the "Water Wars" as they have known to be called, have led the people to litterally go on a revolt against the IMF and their government to keep water out of the hands of multinationals who want to privatize this "product"...

In Washington DC, april 2000, protesters rallied to disrupt a meeting between the IMF and the World Bank. Once again, the Black Bloc emerged into this conflict. Civil disobedience was once again used by various protest groups, but once again, not as effectively as in the MAI protests because fences closed access to the areas where the metting would take place. In various testimonies, it was related that police charged protesters with their horses and motorcycles every chance they could, even peaceful ones such as the civil disobedience groups. The fences were breached by the Black Bloc with their grappling hooks and their conrontations with the cops, and once again, the protesters managed to go run through the lines of cops and express the most fundamentalright in a democratic society: freedom of speech

Various other movements of revolt have popped up around the world, including Prague. The people conscious of the effects of globalization do not want such injustice in the world. The dynamics of these confrontations have changed alot since the MAI protests. Cops and soldiers are told to stop protesters no matter what the cost. The results of these dealings are extremely influential on where our world will be headed...
